Advice on how to maintain your ukelele in winter

Post by Emma »

In winter, many people find that there is sizzle sound when playing the ukelele, or board of their ukelele split:, Why this sunddenly happen?
Because our ukulele is mostly made of natural wood, the sudden huge change in temperature or humidity is harmful to the wooden board, especially when air conditioner or heating is on in winter.

Here are some tips to take care of your ukulele:

1. play your ukele more:
The natural grease from the fingers and the vibration are the best prescription for it.
When you fiinish playing ukekelele, gently wipe it clean with a wipe cloth and put it back in the bag

`2. Please put the ukelele in the bag When not use it.
Do not put on the ground or against the wall, because the ukulele would be distorted by resistance from the ground/wall.
When you don’t plan to play for a long time, please do loosen the strings slightly
3. please oil fretboard regularly (you can use lemon oil/olive oil, etc.),

4. It is strongly recommended to always have a "temperature and humidity caculator" at home and maintain your uklele accordingly.
. The optimal temperature for ukulele is 22~25 °C, and the optimal humidity is 45~55; If it is too dry, moisturize your ukelele, and if it is too wet dehumidified it;

5. Here are something you should never do:
Do not expose it to the sun or rain,
do not place it near floor heating/air conditioning/heating/electric heating fan, etc.,

Someone may wonder how should we humidify the ukulele,here are some tips :If if the weather is not too dry, you can hang 2 soundhole humidifiers around it and add some water at least once a day

If it is too dry
① .Besides hang soundhole humidifiers, you need put the ukulele in its bag and then wet the entire bag with water However, please remember to wrap all the metal parts and frets, etc. before to prevent rust;
② Remember to dry the piano bag after that to avoid bad smell);

And also the fingerboard need to be humidified. You could wipe the fingerboard with a cloth and some maintenance oil such as lemon oil/orange oil/olive oil, etc

In winter, due to the influence of the climate, it is almost impossible to guarantee 100% of the excellent humidity, but there is no need to worry. As long as you maintain and humidify more regularly, the wood will not dry out!
Also because the wood is active, it will slowly return to normal in spring or summer, so don't worry too much~"
